Born in Sydney, Eileen Kramer began her serious dance training at the Gertrud Bodenwieser studio having been inspired by a Bodenwieser Ballet performance of The Blue Danube at the Sydney Conservatorium. Later she joined the Bodenwieser Ballet and appeared in many of the company's important works of the 1940s. They included Demon Machine, The Blue Danube and The Wheel of Life. During this time Bodenwieser created Indian Love Song on her. Kramer toured Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India with the Bodenwieser Ballet and was also one of the company's leading costume designers.

Kramer left the Bodenwieser Ballet in the 1950s and spent three years living and performing in India before moving to the United States where she worked with the Trillium Performing Arts Collective in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
