Research Materials | Other Resources
Tatiana Riabouchinska came to Australia in 1938 with the Covent Garden Russian Ballet. During that tour, which lasted until 1939, she was much admired, as she was around the world, for her portrayal of the Golden Cockerel in Fokine's Le Coq d'or, which received its Australian premiere on 17 October 1938. She was also highly praised for her dancing in the Prelude in Les Sylphides and in the Bluebird pas de deux from Aurora's Wedding, especially when partnered by Roman Jasinsky. Other ballets in which she took leading roles in Australia in 1938-1939 included Cendrillon and Jeux d'enfants.
Riabouchinska returned to Australia with the Original Ballet Russe on its tour of 1939-1940. She again danced the roles for which she had become known from the Covent Garden Russian Ballet tour and added to her Australian repertoire roles in Fokine's Paganini, David Lichine's Graduation Ball and in Coppelia.
