Research Materials | Other Resources
Born in Melbourne as Edna Luscombe, Edna Edgley began her dance training with Jennie Brenan and as a child appeared in pantomimes directed by the J. C. Wiliamson organisation. Later she worked in Williamson musicals and eventually became the company ballet mistress. She toured extensively in Australia and overseas but eventually, with Eric Edgley her husband, settled in Perth where they took over the running of His Majesty's Theatre. She then spent the major part of her life working in the Edgley entrepreneurial business. Edgley returned to the stage in 1974 as Juliet's Nurse in the Australian Ballet production of John Cranko's Romeo and Juliet, which she continued to dance in subsequent revivals. She also appeared for the Australian Ballet in Onegin and as Mar in The Sentimental Bloke.
