Marie Rambert led the 1948 to 1949 Ballet Rambert tour to Australia.
Born in Warsaw, Rambert studied dance in Paris, Geneva, Dresden and London. She was founder of Rambert Ballet School in London from 1920 and of Marie Rambert Dancers from 1926. This small company grew into Ballet Club, which in turn became Ballet Rambert in 1936.
The Ballet Rambert tour to Australia and Rambert's role in it are further discussed in 'Ballet Rambert Creates a Splash' in National Library of Australia News, December 2002.
