Olivia Millard was born in Melbourne, where she grew up and learnt to dance. She graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1992 and joined 2 Dance Plus (now Buzz Dance Theatre) in 1994. She worked with 2 Dance Plus until the end of 1996. In 1997, she performed in Le Grande Macabre in the Salzburg Festival, which was choreographed by Joachim Shlomer and directed by Peter Sellars.
From 1999 to 2001, Millard worked with the Melbourne-based company Dance Works, performing works by Sandra Parker, Rebecca Hilton, Ros Warby and Trevor Patrick and touring with the company to the eastern states of Australia and to Paris. She has received investments from ArtsWA to create several works including Pepito's Revenge, Foot Hill, Well and Who Killed Montgomery? Who Killed Montgomery? was then commissioned by Buzz Dance Theatre and recreated for their Playhouse season in 2002. Millard has also been commissioned to make works for STEPS Youth Dance Company and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), including Link, the WAAPA graduate company. She has worked with Perth-based independent choreographers, Sue Peacock, Paul O'Sullivan, Danielle Micich, Phillippa Clarke and also works as a sessional lecturer at WAAPA.
In 2003 Millard received a Creative Development Fellowship from ArtsWA. As part of this Fellowship she travelled to New York and Europe and attended workshops facilitated by Chryssa Parkinson, David Beadle, Vicky Schick, KJ Holmes, Benoit LaChambre Emio Greco and others. Following this she was involved in writing a Dance Course of Study for year 11 and 12 students for the Western Australian Curriculum Council. In 2006, her solo work Sliding Towards was supported by STRUT Dance.
