Fieldworks Performance Group was founded in Perth in 1988 under the direction of Jim Hughes. The group aimed to ‘investigate areas of new dance, performance, theatre and new media’. Founding dancers were Bill Handley, Lynne Williams, Janine Burchett and Michael Johnson and Hughes, who was also the company's main choreographer.
The repertoire of Fieldworks Performance Group included Reflections (1990), Poets, Lunatics and Dreamers, Crossings (1991), Traces (1993), Scenes in a Prison (1993), Solos (1994), Why Can’t Emus Fly (1994), The Lost Ones (1994), Odd Couple (1994), Rites of Passage (1996), and Time Out (1996).
