Founded in 1991 by Sally Chance and Tania Rose, Restless Dance Theatre aims 'to collaboratively create professional calibre dance theatre with young people who predominantly have an intellectual disability'. The Adelaide based company began as Restless Dance Company, changing its name to Restless Dance Theatre in 2008. It creates dance theatre and runs workshops and tours throughout South Australia and interstate. Philip Channells was appointed artistic director in mid-2009.
Restless Dance choreography is based on a model of interaction that does not rely on mimicry or acting in the traditional sense, but integrates the individual stories and emotions of the dancers. The cast is varied and can include dancers in wheelchairs, partially blind performers and dancers with physical or mental disabilities.
Restless Dance Company has performed in the Ausdance South Australian Dance Spectacular (2001), National Youth Dance Festival (1997) and at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Arts Festival. Company performances are listed on the website, which is available as a link at the top of this page.
