Born in Sydney, Fiona Malone studied dance in Sydney, Brisbane, Chattanooga and Monte Carlo before taking a bachelor's degree in dance and drama at the Queensland University of Technology. Malone has worked in a wide variety of dance forms including folkloric dance, dance theatre, movement research and multimedia performance. She has worked both nationally and internationally with companies and artists including Australian Dance Theatre, Opera Australia, Charleroi Danses (Belgium), CH-Tanztheatre (Zurich), Meryl Tankard, Graeme Murphy, Dean Walsh, Akram Khan, John Utans and Kate Denborough.
As an independent artist Malone continues to choreograph, perform and collaborate with artists as well as creating her own productions. During five years spent dancing in Brussels with the Charleroi Danses company she developed an interest in the use of technology to explore real-time interactive performance environments. Her productions and commissions include: Ignus Fatuus(2000) and Boite (2001) for Australian Dance Theatre Ignition Seasons ; Bamboo Bathing (2003) for Contemporary Arts Centre of South Australia; The Obcell, which premiered in Canberra in 2003 while Malone held an Australian Choreographic Centre fellowship; D/vision (2004) commissioned for AIT Arts, Adelaide; The Roll of Honour (2005) and The Living Sky (2006) both commissions for the Quantum Leap youth ensemble in Canberra; Reticence (2006), commissioned by One Extra Dance Company; Loony Times (2007) for the National Institute of Dramatic Art; and La La Land (2008).
