Igneous is a collaboration between dancer/choreographer James Cunningham and multimedia artist and film maker Suzon Fuks. Together they have created multimedia dance theatre productions, installation performances and movement based videos that have toured Australia, India, Belgium, France, Germany, Canada and the UK.
Their work is typically multi-disciplinary and is underpinned by an engagement with process and interaction with other artists. They have undertaken an Asialink residency in South India (2000) and a residency at Dance 4 in Nottingham, working with dance film artist Rob Tannion (2002). As company-in-residence at Brisbane Powerhouse (2001) they facilitated a series of Movement Video Laboratories for professional artists. In 2002 Igneous created visual installations for the companies Parcours & Des Airs (Belgium) & sacredCOW (Brisbane).
Body in Question (1999), incorporates live performance, a life-size puppet, video and slide projections and an original soundtrack. It portrays the personal journey of Cunningham, as he sought to recover self-expression after paralysing an arm in a motorcycle accident. Thanatonauts – Navigators of Death (2004) came out of a long-term creative relationship with Indian martial artist, Vinildas Gurukkal and has appeared as a seven day site-specific installation and a video work. Liquid Skin (2005) was a collaboration with German puppet company Figuren Theater Tuebingen and Belgian sound artist Bobvan. Other works are listed in the 'DVDs for sale' section of the company's website which is available as a link at the top of this page.
