Research Materials | Other Resources
Alison Lee was trained by Perth teacher Linley Wilson and was her assistant teacher from 1930 to 1936. Lee continued her career in London in the late 1930s but returned to Australia on the outbreak of war. She joined de Basil's Original Ballet Russe for its Australian tour of 1939-1940 and danced under the name Helena Lineva. When the de Basil company left for America, Lee returned to Perth and gave solo recitals during the war while she worked for the Army Intelligence Branch. After the war she performed and choreographed in Melbourne with the Borovansky Ballet, the National Theatre Ballet and Ballet Guild. She was assistant director of Ballet Guild from 1952 to 1955, and created her choreographic debut En Cirque for this company in 1953. She also opened her own school in Melbourne.
