Research Materials | Other Resources
Chrissie Parrott's professional dance career began in the 1970s when, aged nineteen, she joined West Australian Ballet. She made her first choreographic work, Like Hiroshima: Just Another Fallout in 1976 and her first commissioned work, Catherine's Wedding was created in 1978 for West Australian Ballet. Leaving Australia in the late 1970s she spent the next several years in Europe. In Europe she spent a period of time dancing with Tanz Forum in Cologne and during this time away from Australia developed her interest in and knowledge of contemporary dance. She was commissioned by Tanz Forum and also created experimental works in London and France.
Parrott returned to Australia in 1986 and formed the Chrissie Parrott Dance Collective, later named Chrissie Parrott Dance Company. For this ensemble she created over thirty works. Other commissions came from West Australian Ballet, Australian Dance Theatre and a number of overseas companies. Parrott's interest in the use of computer technology in dance has generated a number of works using such technology source material.
