Adam Linder was born in Sydney where he studied ballet under Christine Keith at the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and Brent Street Studios. In 2000 he began training at the Royal Ballet School on full scholarship, and in 2002 was accepted into the Company. There his repertoire included the classics as well as works by Kenneth MacMillan, Christopher Wheeldon, Mats Ek, Wayne McGregor and Cathy Marston. In 2004, Linder joined Netherlands Dance Theatre II, remaining with this company for a year and dancing works by Jiri Kylian, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot / Sol Leon, Johan Inger and Gustavo Ramirez. He created Over My Dead Body for dancers from NDT at the Lucent Theatre, The Hague, in 2005.
In 2006 Linder began working independently with contemporary choreographers including Michael Clark, Rafael Bonachela, Arthur Pita and Jeremy Wade. He participated in the creation and performance of the 'Stravinsky Project' works O and Mmm with the Michael Clark Company, Square Map of Q4 with the Bonachela Company, and the creation of Neo Sweet Pig Nothing’s Lullaby for the Sick & Suffering with Berlin dance-maker Jeremy Wade. He has also engaged in diverse collaborations with visual and musical artists. In 2006 he began working with photographer Will Davidson on the dance-film collaboration Collectnudes.com, including the making of Fuck Forever, which has been broadcast on British, Australian and Spanish television. Since 2007 he has collaborated with Pablo Bronstein on the creation of his artist films, and in 2008 presented I Put My Trust In You with British band These New Puritans at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris.
Early in 2008 Linder was commissioned to create the solo performance The Perfect Score for The Place, London, and in September won the Place Prize for Dance with Foie Gras, a duet offering a satirical account of consumerism which he performed with Lorena Randi. Linder was the youngest choreographer selected to show work in the competition.
In 2010, Linder was based in Berlin as a member of Meg Stuart's Damaged Goods company. He toured internationally with this company's Do Animals Cry, a work which he was involved in creating.
Linder's first work for an ensemble - a commissioned work for Sydney Dance Company entitled are we that we are - premiered in March 2010.
