Sir Robert Southey, Melbourne-born businessman, was chairman of the Australian Ballet Foundation from 1980 to 1990. His connections with dance in Australia date, however, to his youth when, as a nephew of Dr Joseph Ringland Anderson, ophthalmologist and filmmaker, he was friendly with the artists of the Ballets Russes companies who visited Australia between 1936 and 1940 and whom his uncle filmed.
