Suzanne Davidson, born Suzanne Musitz in Hungary, danced with the Marquis de Cuevas and Western Theatre Ballet companies before joining the Australian Ballet for its inaugural season in 1962. She subsequently took on many teaching and lecturing commitments for Peggy van Praagh. Between 1966 and 1974 she and a group of dancers, which was eventually named Athletes and Dancers, toured country regions taking dance in education programs to student audiences. The group she developed as a result of these tours was incorporated in 1970 as the Dance Company (NSW). Davidson resigned as its director in 1974. She rejoined the Australian Ballet in 1979 and worked in various capacities, including manager of the Australian Ballet's Sydney office, until 1997.
