Established in Queensland in 1998 Raw Metal Dance Company blends traditional tap dancing with funk/grunge culture in a style the company calls funk tap. The all male company performs to funk and hip hop dance music. They give performances in a variety of public spaces and entertainment venues and have also established an education program in which the company dancers offer workshops, in-schools programs, and master classes in tap and funk dancing.
The current company consists of nine dancers, including producer/creator Andrew Fee, and dancers Reindert Toia, Paul Wilson, Simon Wright, Hamish Murray, Mark Hill, Simon Battersby, Chris Jordan, and Reece Hopkins. Other members of the company include artistic director/dramaturge Tim Hill, choreographer Robert Emblen, production manager Troy Kelly, and lighting designer Ben Hughes.
Raw Metal's mission statement is 'achieving your goals through innovative design and hard work' and the company philosophy is one of 'integrity, intelligence, judgment, confidence, respect and leadership'.
